Adult Education

In the Anglican tradition, theological reflection draws on three primary sources: scripture, tradition and reason. Study, reflection and candid discussion are therefore practiced here; searching questions are therefore welcomed here. Recognizing that what we believe about God directly affects how we relate to God, St. John’s offers Adult education in a variety of venues.

These options are currently available during the pandemic.

Sundays at 9:00 a.m. Led by Eileen Manz. Using audiovisual resources of major biblical scholars such as N.T. Wright and Kenneth Bailey, this accessible exploration engages parishioners in lectures, engagement with the text, and personal reflection on the Scriptures. On Zoom and in person in the Thompson Room for the fully vaccinated. If you would like to join in via Zoom, please be in touch with Eileen via email at

Tuesdays at 11:00 a.m. Bible study via Zoom, led by Gail Richardson. Using a variety of scholarly sources, this accessible study directly engages and unfolds the riches of the text and invites participants to reflect practically and pastorally. We are currently studying the Book of Nehemiah. If you would like to join, please contact Gail at

Wednesday Evening Rector’s Forum, December 1, 8, and 15, at 7pm, on Zoom. Mother Judith leads a Zoom presentation. During Advent, we will reflect on the life and theological significance of John the Baptist, an important Advent figure, using a series of short films produced by a joint venture of the National Gallery of Art in London and Kings College Cambridge. The link goes out on the Wednesday e-blast.

Alpha: A twelve-week course on the essentials of Christian faith, which includes shared food, a short film, discussion, and retreat weekend. Currently, one Alpha group is underway, in person for the fully vaccinated. If you are interested in participating in an Alpha group, be in touch with the rector or the office. A new group will start in January.
