Dear People of Saint John’s,
Tonight at 6, we continue our Lenten and dinner series, “A Case for Love.” A trailer for the film, which we will see in 15-minute portions, can be found here. Tonight’s dinner will be Chicken Parmesan, and the film will start at 7. I hope you can come!
I also hope you are enjoying the beautiful reflections in the Lenten Devotional. Contributors took great care in these thoughtful, prayerful, and insightful commentaries. Additional copies are available in the office.
Other Lenten offerings include Friday’s Stations of the Cross at noon, led by the Daughters of the King Sandra Rouse and Lois Hodkinson, followed by a meatless soup and bread in the Thompson Room. At 5 p.m. we have a Candlelight Meditation, with Reese Bush, a student from RPI who plays the violin.
On Sunday morning we started a new Bible Study, led by N.T. Wright, “Worldviews, the Bible, and the Believer.” Throughout history, the Bible has presented every culture with a new worldview. How does a Biblical worldview stand apart from culture, and how does it challenge and affirm the cultures of the world? An introductory lecture can be found here. Sundays from 9 to 9:45 in the Library.
There will also be a Quiet Day for younger adults the following Saturday, March 29th, from noon until 5 in the Thompson Room. Based on Ken Shigematsu’s God in My Everything, we will take this Lenten opportunity to develop or revisit a rule of life. Books are available in the office.
Watch for Sandra Rouse’s new class after Easter: “Spirituality in Later Years.” Based on the training she participated in with the national Episcopal Church, this course will run for six Wednesday afternoons from 1 to 2:30 in the Thompson Room. Deacons Sandy and Bill are participating! More information is available in the Sunday announcements.
The Benedictine group is scheduled for Tuesday, April 1st, at 7 p.m., and we welcome new members. We share our learnings as we follow Joan Chittister’s commentary The Rule of Saint Benedict:
With gratitude for our life together,
Mother Judith
