Tonight, our Lenten Series by Bishop Robert Barron, “Seven Deadly Sins and Seven Lively Virtues,” begins. With references to literary works, spiritual writings, and psychological literature, Bishop Barron lays out with good humor these sinful tendencies that we all share. But the good news is that for each of the deadly sins, there is a lively virtue that we can practically cultivate. Tonight we look at deadly pride and lively humility. Dinner will be at 6 (a variety of Chinese dishes from Lucky Corner) and the film and discussion will run from 7 to 8 pm. Please come!
Tomorrow (Thursday) night we continue our online Anglicanism class at 7 pm, and we will focus on the English Reformation. How did the strengths of the church in England propel the church toward reformation and renewal? Who were the significant players and what did they contribute? How important was Henry VIII in all this, really? If you choose to attend only one of these classes, I recommend this one. A separate link will be sent out tomorrow.
We are already starting to receive donations for the U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants in Albany. Please keep them coming! They are being collected in the narthex and will be picked up and delivered to the Committee by Henry Frueh, M.Div., and his wife Janice Joyce. As they relayed this past Sunday, these are immigrants whose presence here has been legally sponsored by the U.S. Government, but whose support has been diminished. The list of essential items can be found here. Please pray for the immigrant community, which historically and today brings so much talent and vitality to our life as a nation.
I hope you are enjoying your Lenten Devotional as much as I am! Everyone has provided such thoughtful reflections. Special thanks to Jennifer Firth, who has led this effort so capably these past five years, and to all who took the time to reflect on a passage.
And finally a word from Isabelle Andrews of the Hospitality Committee:
Community breakfast, March 14, 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.
Please join us for our much-requested community breakfast. We will be serving pancakes, scrambled eggs, hash browns, sausages, coffee, juice, and waffles! We could use baked goods, fruit salad, and volunteers. Sign-up sheets are in the narthex and outside the Thompson Room. Welcome to volunteers from St. Paul’s who is cosponsoring the breakfast. It will be a wonderful time to share a meal and fellowship with our congregation, St. Paul’s, and our neighbors. We look forward to seeing you! God Bless!
With gratitude for our life together,
Mother Judith
