Tonight, our Lenten Series by Bishop Robert Barron, “Seven Deadly Sins and Seven Lively Virtues,” continues.  With references to literary works, spiritual writings, and psychological literature, Bishop Barron lays out with good humor these sinful tendencies that we all share.  But the good news is that for each of the deadly sins, there is a lively virtue that we can practically cultivate.  Tonight, we look at deadly sloth and lively zeal.  Dinner will be at 6 (Chicken Ala Saint John’s from Deb Henderson) and the film and discussion will run from 7 to 8 pm. Please come!

Tomorrow (Thursday) night we continue our online Anglicanism class at 7 pm, and we will focus on the Wesleyan Revivals.  Thanks to the Caroline Divines, England, now rooted in the faith, saw a period of revival.  This was an age of great evangelists, from Charles and John Wesley as well as others, as well as social ministry.  A separate link will be sent out tomorrow.

Friday’s Stations and Soup, beginning at noon in the church, are written from the perspective of Christ himself, and led by the Daughters of the King.  Perhaps you would like to add an hour reflecting on the Cross to your Lenten devotions.

Friday’s candlelit meditation at 5 pm will be accompanied by Dennis Kwarteng on the organ.  Dennis has been a regular at our meditations, and he is always a delight.  Daylight Savings time moves the sunlight to later in the afternoon, so we can especially enjoy the Heavenly City window at this time.  Do come!

We have been receiving donations for the U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants in Albany. Please keep them coming! They are being collected in the narthex and they are being picked up and delivered to the Committee by Henry Frueh, M.Div., and his wife Janice Joyce.  These are immigrants whose presence here has been legally sponsored by the U.S. Government, but whose support has been diminished.  The list of essential items can be found here.  It is on the right-hand column under Essential Item Drive.  Please pray for the immigrant community, which historically and today brings so much talent and vitality to our life as a nation.

I hope you are enjoying your Lenten Devotional as much as I am!  Everyone has provided such thoughtful reflections. Special thanks to Jennifer Firth, who has led this effort so capably these past five years, and to all who took the time to reflect on a passage.

And finally, a word from Isabelle Andrews of the Hospitality Committee, coming off a successful community breakfast this past weekend.  More than 100 people came and enjoyed scrambled eggs, pancakes, fruit, baked goods, and more.  This was a great time to be with parishioners and others from the neighborhood.  But wait, there’s more!

Maundy Thursday Simple Supper

Please join us on Thursday, April 2nd, 2026 for a Simple Supper from 5:45 to 6:45, pm, in St. John's Gym.  The Supper will be soup and bread; sign-up sheets are outside the Thomson Room.  A Eucharistic service will follow at 7:00 p.m., where we pause and reflect on the origin of our Holy Eucharist and the beginning of Christ’s suffering and death.

Easter Special Coffee Hour

After our Easter Service on April 5th, 2026,   there will be a celebratory Special Coffee hour in the St John's gym.  We are looking forward to sharing deviled eggs, baked goods, cheese and crackers, fruit salad, finger sandwiches, and whatever other specialty items you wish to bring. Sign-up sheets are outside the Thompson room. See you there!

With gratitude for our life together,

Mother Judith
